Transition lenses, also called photochromic or light-adaptive lenses, darken automatically when you step into sunlight and return to clear once you are back indoors. Lathi Tha Eyecare fits them to your prescription at any of our six branches, so one pair of spectacles covers your desk, your commute and your afternoon outside. No swapping between glasses and sunglasses, and no squinting while you look for them.
The lenses work through photochromic molecules built into the lens material. Ultraviolet light changes the structure of those molecules and the lens tints; take the UV away and they settle back to clear. They respond on overcast days too, since UV comes through cloud.
Two things worth knowing before you choose them: they darken more in cold weather and a little less in extreme heat, and behind a car windscreen they stay mostly clear because the glass already blocks UV. For driving we will still point you to prescription sunglasses.
Transition lenses are available on single vision, bifocal and multifocal prescriptions and can be combined with the same coatings we offer on standard lenses. Book an eye test, bring your current prescription, or come in and try a demo lens under the sun outside the branch. Our optometrists will tell you plainly whether they suit how you spend your day.
